Living in Belize

Belize is known in Central America as being a melting pot for cultures. Belize consists of many ethnic groups, languages, and cultures. The most prominent ethnic groups in Belize are Creoles, Mestizos, and Garifunas. There are also large populations of Chinese, East Indians, and Mayans. With the many ethnic groups living in Belize, it is no wonder that there are so many different languages spoken here. Almost all people of Belize are very courteous. It is very common to see Belizeans greeting each other in the streets even when they do not know each other at all.

 

 

While Belize is not known for its shopping opportunities, it is still something enjoyed by everyone that visits the country. Almost every town and village throughout Belize has mini markets and convenience stores which makes basic necessities very easy to find in Belize. There are markets located in Belize City where you can buy excellent quality fresh fruit and vegetables at very low prices. Anything that is locally grown or made is relatively cheap. A favorite shopping spot of many is along the Belize coast. Here you can find the shell jewelry that is hand made and sold by the Creole people. The Creole people also are known for their intricate wood carvings that are made and sold at low prices. Belize is well known for its unique paintings, wood carvings, jewelry and crafts that are hand made and sold by the many different ethnic groups living here.

Belizean food is one of Central America's best cuisines. There are many top notch restaurants located here and all are very laid back. Casual attire is all that is required in almost all of Belize's dining options. Since the world's second largest coral reef runs along the coastline of Belize, you can find some of the Caribbean's freshest and tastiest seafood here. The juices available in Belize are all always fresh squeezed. The most popular and delicious varieties of fresh juices are lime, mango, and watermelon.

Belize also has thousands of Mayan archaeological temples that prove to be large attractions for both visitors and locals. Belize also has the largest cave system in Central America.
